Community calls for more development projects

The people of Tei Mensah, a farming community near Suhum, have appealed to the government to extend development projects to the area to help improve their standard of living.

Mr. Emmanuel Akunor, Mbrantehene (chief of the youth), made the call at a Town Development Committee (TDC) meeting at Tei Mensah at the week-end.

Mr Akunor said the town had been neglected for far too long by governments and that the people had not seen any meaningful development projects in the area.

He appealed to the present government to assist them in their quest for improved living standards.

Mr Akunor said cocoa, citrus, banana and foodstuff abound in the area but roads leading to the town are bad that commercial drivers refused to cart those items to the buying centres.

Mr. Akunor listed their priority projects as boreholes, clinic, public toilets and schools.

He said the Odikro (sub-chief) of the area was prepared to release land to the government for projects and that the people were also prepared to support any projects with communal labour.

Mr. George Siaw, chairman of the Parent/Teacher Association of the only Local Authority Primary School, said the farmers put up a bamboo structure for classes One to Four in 2001. Classes Five and Six are in one room and the kindergarten is housed in the local Pentecost church.**
