Commonwealth records from 1973 made public

Accra, Jan. 30, GNA – The Commonwealth Secretariat on Friday made public formerly classified documents totalling 91 files up to 1973. The records included, Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting, Ottawa, 1973 and minutes of meetings of the Rhodesia Sanctions Committee Other were files relating to the Rhodesian crisis, aid to Zambia, files relating to the report of the work of the Study Group on the Commonwealth Secretariat and Bangladesh and the Bahamas-membership of the Commonwealth.

A statement issued by the Communications and Public Affairs Division of the Secretariat said it was the eighth year that records had been made public following the 1997 adoption of the practice to release confidential documents after thirty years. It said 22 files comprising official tours and visits of the Secretary-General, the European Economic Community and its impact on Commonwealth and Commonwealth Finance Minister meeting, London 1972 from the Private Office of Arnod Smith, first Commonwealth Secretary-General were also released.
