Committee set up to investigate Kumasi Prison riot

Following the riot the broke out at the Kumasi Central Prisons, the Director-General for the service has come out to state that a committee has been set up to look into the matter. Some inmates of Kumasi Central Prisons on Wednesday evening attempted to escape after a fire outbreak at a section of the detention center.

A correspondent for the station Sampson K. Nyamekye, reports that due to the chaos, some prisoners who were wielding dangerous weapons clashed with some of the security personnel which led to the death of one inmate.

In an address to United Television (UTV), Mrs Matilda Baffour Awuah noted that if investigations found prison warden(s) to have started the outburst, the service would never shield or protect that officer.   She also claimed that if it were the prisoners who ignited the tragedy, the culprit(s) would be dealt with as defined by the law.
