Committee on Dansoman shooting presents report

Accra, Nov. 6, GNA – The five-member committee that investigated the Dansoman and Kotobabi shooting incidents in Accra on Monday presented their findings to the Minister of the Interior, Mr. Albert Kan-Dapaah in Accra.

The committee, which was chaired by Mr Justice J. C. Amonoo-Monney, a retired Judge of Court of Appeal, was to unravel the circumstances that led to the shooting to death of five persons by the police as well as the police personnel involved in the act.

Justice Amonoo-Monney who presented the report expressed optimism that their advice and recommendations would be given due consideration to forestall the reoccurrence of similar events in the future.

He praised the police for their swift response to the crime but decried the manner at which they handled the situation, saying, 93we hope the advice in this report would help the Service to handle armed robbery professionally.=94

The Chairman of the Committee indicated that, in the course of their investigations they observed that Dansoman and Kotobabi were noted for notorious robbery and car snatching. Mr Kan-Dapaah expressed gratitude to the Committee for its meticulous work and gave the assurance that appropriate steps would be taken

on it. “I will study the report and come out with my position on the recommendations and the whole country will know what exactly happened on those fateful days.=94 The Dansoman and Kotobabi shooting incidents took place early this year on April 21 and May 19 respectively claiming the lives of five persons. The police involved in the shooting spree claimed that they were tracking armed robbers who had robbed innocent persons of several millions of cedis and other personal belongings. 6 Nov. 06
