COCOBOD asked to extend period of paying bonus

Kasapin (B/A), Dec.17, GNA-Cocoa Farmers at Kasapin in the Brong Ahafo Region, have called on the Government and the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) to extend the period for the payment of bonuses to farmers from December 14 to 16 of this year, to January 2005.

Nana Opunuawiusie Wiredu-Brempong, Chief of Kasapin and Spokesman for the farmers who was speaking to the Ghana News Agency after a meeting with some farmers said the period for the payment of the money was too short.

He said the mode of payment did not augur well for most settler farmers in the area, since they had to travel long distances to meet the deadline given by COCOBOD.

Nana Wiredu-Brempong also expressed displeasure that the Produce Buying Company was the sole agent for the payment of the bonuses and called for other organisations to be roped in. 17 Dec. 04
