Cocaine saga: “Ignorant” Dawood’s Ghana return surprising

The Executive Director of the Ghana Institute of Governance and Security, David Agbee, has suggested that Muhammed Dawood – the businessman alleged to have masterminded the trafficking of 12.5 kilos of cocaine to the UK through a lady courier, Nayele Ametefeh – might have been ignorant that he was wanted by the Bureau of National Investigations.

Dawood, who is alleged to have facilitated the entire cocaine haul, was arrested at Ghana’s Kotoka International Airport upon arrival from Lagos, Nigeria on Sunday.

Speaking to Kafui Dey, host of Morning Starr on Starr 103.5FM Tuesday, Agbee said Dawood’s decision to return to Ghana is not only surprising but strange which only indicates that he was unaware that he was being tracked by the BNI.

“I would like to say that he wasn’t aware that the security intelligence were monitoring him and so, he was surprised that he has been arrested…Looking at it he shouldn’t have come”.

“If he was actually monitoring what was going in the country, he could have just used a vehicle to come to Ghana without people getting to know that he is in the county. So I am just trying to say that he was ignorant as far as these issues are concerned,” Agbee said.
