Cobbler incarcerated for 24 months for stealing

Nkawie (Ash), Nov 14, GNA – A 26-year-old cobbler has been sentenced to 24 months imprisonment for stealing household electronic gadgets valued at 100 million cedis by the Nkawie circuit court. Yaw Kwarteng pleaded guilty to the charge.

Prosecution told the court presided over by Mr Noble Nkrumah that Akosua Margaret (complainant), who sells bread for a living stayed in the room of her husband who had traveled to Holland. Pregnant Margaret had to leave for her parent’s house to deliver as she was nearing term in January 2005.

Prosecution said Kwarteng and his girlfriend, Juliana Antwiwaa, niece of the complainant, took advantage of her absence and made away with items including a video camera, a television set and a refrigerator, all valued at 100 million cedis.

Investigations led to the arrest of Kwarteng but his girlfriend is on the run.
