CLOSSAG to strike in July

The Ashanti regional council of the Civil and Local Government Staff Association (CLOGSAG) has declared its intention to strike over government’s failure to pay their premium by the end of June.

A statement signed by the Ashanti regional chairperson, Mercy Acheampong, indicated that a memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed on August 18, 2016, between government of Ghana and CLOGSAG to commence payment of their premium from January 2017.

However, as at May 2017, no premium had been given to workers.

“The Regional Council has resolved today [June 19] that if government fails to pay the premium by the end of June 2017 and the national leadership also fails to declare a nationwide strike, the Ashanti regional branch will be left with no option than to lay down our tools and proceed with an indefinite strike from 3rd July, 2017.”

According to CLOGSAG there has been an “ unfair treatment and injustice meted out to members by government and is therefore calling on its members to prepare for an impending strike”.
