CLOGSAG sticks to their guns

Accra, July 5, GNA – The nation-wide demonstration by members of the Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana, (CLOGSAG) comes off on Thursday, July 8 as scheduled, Mr Edward Tennyson Foli, acting President of the Association said on Tuesday. At a press conference held in Accra, Mr Foli said the demonstration is to petition the President Professor J. E. Mills on issues related to negotiations on 2010 salary adjustments and other conditions of service for the members of CLOGSAG.

He said at a joint emergency meeting among CLOGSAG, Minister of Finance and Economic Planning (MOFEP), Ministry of Employment and Social Welfare (MESW), Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC), the Minister of MOFEP, Dr. Kwabena Duffuor, Minister of Finance and Economic Planning directed that the FWSC and CLOGSAG) should agree on modalities relating to the revaluation of all jobs in the Civil and Local Government Service.

Since then, Mr Foli said, FWSC has not been able to supply the necessary information to the technical committee to do its work, from which acceptable Single Spine Salary Structure would be developed. “We have set up an internal committee to do further analysis on the implications of the Single Spine Salary Structure (SSS) as recently announced”. Mr Foli added.

Mr Foli said CLOGSAG has analysed the base pay (GHC3.42) and 1.7 per cent relativities of the SSS announced by the FWSC on Thursday, July 1, 2010. He said in CLOGSAG’s opinion, fairness and equity has eluded the FWSC, while pursuing the objectives of the Single Spine Pay Policy”. He said CLOGSAG will not accept any policy that would be disadvantageous to any member, saying that, issues relating to conditions of service are still being pursued and “we have not mandated anybody or institution to negotiate on our behalf”. 6 July 10
