Clergyman decries moral decadence in the church

Kumasi, Dec 10, GNA- The Reverend Otuo Acheampong, Chairperson of the Asante Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG), has bemoaned the high rate of moral decadence that had engulfed the Christian community in the country in recent times.

The development, he said, had resulted in a situation where “We now have non-communicants outnumbering communicants in most churches. This is because many who profess to be Christians did not live up to expectation and thus feared to dine with the Lord”. Speaking at the induction of Reverend Peter Kofi Nyarkoh as District Minister of the Bantama Presbyterian Church in Kumasi on Sunday, Rev Acheampong entreated church leaders to be vigilant and focused, to enable them to mount an unprecedented campaign to ensure discipline in the church.

The programme was on the theme, Press on Toward the Goal”. Rev Acheampong stressed that it behoved on Ministers of the gospel and church leaders to put into practice the doctrines of the Bible and policies of the church for effective propagation of the gospel. He said the maintenance of such high moral standards, especially among Christian leaders was also necessary, since it would enable them to be focused in overcoming the challenges of the world and social vices in the Ghanaian society.

Rev Nyarkoh commended the leadership of the Presbyterian Church for the confidence reposed in him and said he would be committed to duty to ensure the growth of the church. The newly inducted Minister replaced Reverend Emmanuel Agyen-Frimpong who went on retirement last month. 10 Dec. 07
