Obuasi, Feb 6, GNA- The Chief Justice, Mr Justice George Kingsley Acquah, has repeated that he is determined to fight against any form of corruption and indiscipline within the Judicial Service. “I cannot eliminate completely allegations of corruption within the judiciary on the eve of my assumption of office but I will ensure that corruption is controlled”, he said.
The Chief Justice, who was interacting with staff of the Service from Obuasi, Fomena and New Edubiase at the Ashanti Goldfields Company (AGC) Club House at Obuasi on Thursday, stressed that, “no one can escape with corrupt practices because we are smart in our investigations.”
Mr Justice Acquah warned that any staff caught for indiscipline act would be punished. “When you are caught for indiscipline, I will discipline you”, he stressed.
The Chief Justice said “discipline is paramount and it cuts across all staff in the Service”.
He reminded the workers that no one was above the law and encouraged them to work harder to uplift the image of the Judicial Service.
Mr Justice Acquah noted that the success of the country’s democracy, depended on hard work and asked his staff to “work well wherever you are”.
The Chief Justice assured the staff that he was aware of their plight and that efforts were being made to improve their conditions of service.
He said his administration was putting emphasis on training of staff to enable them to upgrade their skills.
He announced that henceforth promotion in the Service was going to be based on hard work, competence and knowledge in one’s field of specialisation.
Answering questions during an open forum, the Chief Justice said discussions are going on with the Attorney General’s office for the establishment of Criminal Justice Council.
According to him, such council will help address problems associated with remand criminals and also advise the government on effective administration of criminal justice in the country.
