Church rehabilitates over 250 drug addicts

Accra, June 20, GNA – The Good News Church has registered 253 drug and alcoholic addicts within the Tema municipality and they are currently undergoing intensive evangelism and rehabilitation. The Rev. Godson Akpalu, General Overseer of the Church, told the “As a Pastor, I decided against bringing in the police. Instead, I saw it as an opportunity to bring these unfortunate brothers and sisters closer to their maker.” He said the Church therefore underwent seven weeks of intensive evangelism with the addicts at Site 2 in Tema Community one.

“After this initial administering of the word and to this large number, 108 were taken into two weeks of camping for rehabilitation and counselling.” Rev. Akpalu said after the camping exercise, 98 were baptized into the Church. Out of the number, 15 were taken through special prayers and five were currently in the Bible School undergoing pastoral courses, he said.

“I have to testify that these were great men and women of great potentials thrown into dirty ghettoes by marijuana, cocaine and heroin. They are now a great asset to the body of Christ and beneficial to society.” He said the country needed well structured rehabilitation facilities to enable people of such nature to go through proper restoration and redevelopment for them to fit into society. “A well sited rehabilitation centre would be the best facility for the restoration and redevelopment of our brothers and sisters who have become victims of our societal failures,” Rev Akpalu said.
