Winneba (C/R), April 18, GNA – Church leaders have been urged to spearhead moves to find lasting solutions to chieftaincy disputes in the country.
This has become necessary in view of the unique role churches play in the society. Mr Daniel William Osardu, District Chief Executive for Awutu-Effutu-Senya, was speaking at the fifth annual delegates’ conference of the Central Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church at Winneba.
He said since the majority of Ghanaians are Christians, it is imperative for church leaders to devise means of bridging the gap between their followes and various traditional authorities to which their members owe allegiance.
The DCE said the attainment of perpetual peace among traditional authorities and their subjects was crucial for the spiritual advancement of the country. The Omanhene of the Effutu Traditional Area, Neenyi Kobina Ghartey VII appealed to the conference to pray for God’s guidance, peace, unity, wisdom and sense of direction for traditional rulers in the area.
He expressed his desire to welcome moves by churches in the area to assist in finding a lasting solution to the misunderstanding among factions of the Effutu chieftaincy dispute.
Mr G. E. Yarnney, Headmaster of the Winneba Secondary, said that unless Christians did away with vices, it would be difficult for the nation to experience the kind of changes it has been yearning for.
The Reverend Charles K. Ahorble, Presbytery Chairman, advised Effutus to say good-bye to chieftaincy litigation and come together in the name of God to develop the area, adding, “enough is enough”.
