Church asked to support government to implement development agenda

Mr. Daniel K.Eshun, District Chief Executive of Ellembele, on Thursday called on the church to support the Government to implement its development agenda.

He said that though it was the responsibility of Government to provide infrastructure and amenities, the church could complement government’s effort.

Mr Eshun made the call at the opening ceremony of the 51st Synod of the Sekondi Diocese of the Methodist Church Ghana on the theme: “The World, My Parish: Evangelism, The Work of the Church” at Essiama.

He noted that, some religious organizations were already establishing schools thereby contributing to the development of education in the country.

Mr. Eshun called on the church to refrain from partisan politics, but preach against the use of intemperate language and other acts that could disturb the peace of the country.

Right Reverend Edward Ofori Donkor, Bishop of the Diocese, said the country was founded by people whose ideas were rooted in Christianity and other religions.

He said Christians were obliged to accept the choice of the people in a democratic process, although that might not be their preference.

He advised Ghanaians to avoid acts of hooliganism and violence in the on-going nationwide biometric voters’ registration.

Bishop Donkor asked political parties, particularly the dominant ones; the National Democratic Congress and the New Patriotic Party, to consider the development of the country and not their selfish ambitions.

Mrs. Esther Lily Nkansah, Lay Chairman of the Diocese, asked Christians to manifest their faith by behaving properly everywhere they found themselves .**
