Christ’s suffering mirrored humanity’s weaknesses in upholding justice

Ho, March. 21, GNA- The betrayal, humiliation, brutality and death suffered by Jesus Christ, showed the weaknesses of those who had the power to ensure justice, but were driven by self interest and fear from doing so.

Reverend Roberta Torsu-Dogoe, Chaplain of the Mawuko Girls’ Senior High School, Ho, made this observation in a Good Friday sermon at the Ho Bankoe Elorm E P. Church.

It was under the theme, “the meaning of his suffering”. Rev Mrs Torsu-Dogoe said there are people like Judas Iscariot, who are prepared to betray close associates for money, but they soon find out that money earned through betrayal was useless and only brings destruction. Similarly there are others like Pontius Pilate, more concerned to keep their positions and power by pleasing wrong doers, rather than upholding justice. Rev. Mrs Torsu-Dogoe said just like the Pharisees, “there are people with vested interests and would do anything to maintain the status quo by intimidating people to subvert justice, while others like Peter would pledge unflinching support for a noble cause only to flinch in the face of danger”. She said Easter was therefore a reminder of humanity’s sins and weaknesses and the opportunity for those who have become repentant to have salvation through Jesus Christ and his examples rather than die in sin.
