Christians undertake clean-up at Nkawkaw

Nkawkaw, June 26, GNA – Members of Nkakaw Local Council of Churches at the weekend undertook a three-hour clean-up exercise in the town as part of activities marking the Christian Home Week celebration. They swept streets, lorry parks, markets and desilted chocked gutters to ensure environmental cleanliness to avoid diseases in the communities.

Addressing the members after the exercise, the Chairman of Local Council of Churches Rev. Brefo Nubeng urged Pastors of the various churches of the council to educate their congregations to keep their environment clean to enhance their health needs. He advised them to avoid dumping refuse into gutters and littering of the street and urged them to organize clean-up exercise regularly at their communities for others to emulate.

The District Environmental Health Officer, Mr Sulley Mohammed, who assisted them with tools for the exercise thanked them for their initiatives and urged other organizations to emulate them and assist the inadequate environmental staff to keep the communities clean. He said the dumping of waste into gutters courses flooding in some part of the town which also provide bleeding grounds for mosquitoes, resulting in malaria infections.
