CHRAJ boss has embarrassed herself – GII

The Ghana Integrity Initiative, – local chapter of Transparency International – says the suspended head of the Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice, Lauretta Vivian Lamptey could have saved herself the embarrassment if she had stepped down quietly.

President Mahama suspended the CHRAJ boss Tuesday after several allegations of misappropriation of funds were levelled against her last year.

A statement signed by the Chief of Staff Prosper Bani said “the suspension follows the establishment of a prima facie case against Ms. Lamptey by the Chief Justice, and the setting up of a five (5)-member committee to investigate complaints made against her.”

Speaking on Starr News, Tuesday, Mary Adah programs manager of GII welcomed the decision of the President adding that the action restores confidence in CHRAJ.

“I think this is actually a relief, because this is what we have been calling for. We are very appreciative of this effort of the President to ensure that the credibility of CHRAJ as an institution is not compromised,” Adah said.

In August last year, Lamptey moved into a hotel after her US$5,500 monthly rent for her apartment, including utility bills, at the AU Village expired.

Her official residence, which was previously occupied by her predecessor Justice Francis Emile Short, was at the time being redesigned with several variations at her instance, all at a cost of Ghc182,000.

Lamptey, as of late last year was paying 456 dollars a day for her hotel accommodation. In total, about Ghc161,302.5 was spent on Lamptey’s stay in the hotel between August and November 2014.
