Accra, Jan 6, GNA – Mr Lu Yongshou, Ambassador of China, on Thursday said Ghana and China have enjoyed good relations over the years but there is the need to explore more areas for co-operation.
”We need to actively explore new ideas, fields and ways for further expansion of our friendly co-operation so as to bring more dynamism into our relations”.
Presenting his letters of credence to President Jerry John Rawlings at the State House, Mr Lu said the government and people of China cherish their relations with Ghana. President Rawlings reaffirmed Ghana’s support for the one-China policy and congratulated China for its take-over of Macao.
”It is our hope that the return of Macao will provide the needed impetus for China to pursue its ‘peaceful reunification’ and ‘one country two systems policy.’ He said in recent times, Ghana and China have signed a number of agreements on co-operation in agriculture, mining, health, construction and education. ”It is appropriate to recognise China’s contribution to Africa’s efforts.
It is hoped that its vision of assisting African countries in the attainment of their national development objectives will be given the needed impetus during the Sino-African conference scheduled to be held in October in Beijing.” GNA
