In what may appear to be a retaliatory diplomatic response to Ghana’s crackdown on Chinese illegal miners in the West African country, the Government of the Republic of China is contemplating strict new visa requirements for Ghanaian visitors.
The new visa measures, according to XYZ News sorties, will target only Ghanaians, but not restricted to ordinary citizens.
Ghanaian Government officials including Ministers are also expected to be affected by the new water-tight Chinese visa regulations.
The Government of Ghana launched a hard-hitting and targeted crackdown against the Chinese miners in June.
That campaign has led to the arrest and deportation of over 3000 Chinese.
Other nationals from Niger, Mali and other West African Countries have also been deported following the crackdown.
It is not too clear for now if the revised visa requirements are a veiled response by the Government of China to Ghana’s crackdown on the Chinese miners.
Chinese miners in Ghana have intermittently engaged in conflicts with their host communities which have led to deaths and injuries on either side.
A delegation from the Chinese Government recently visited Ghana to engage the Government of the West African nation about how to handle the illegal mining menace.
