Children’s Foundation to expand to 36 new communities

The Christian Children’s Fund of Canada (CCFC), an international non-governmental organization, is to expand its child protection programme to 36 other communities in the Northern Region to impart lives of children.

The expansion, which would begin this month, would see CCFC build schools, water points, Information and Communication Technology centres, amongst other facilities, to address some of the developmental challenges faced by especially rural children.

Mrs Gifty Akosua Baka, Country Director of CCFC, announced this at an annual retreat for staff of CCFC and partners in Tamale to celebrate the achievements of the organisation within the past year.

Mrs Baka said some of the communities including Zagbang, Zang and Zugu in the Yendi Municipality lacked classrooms, hence the decision to assist the communities to ensure the education of the children.

She said the expansion programme meant that CCFC would graduate 29 other communities that it had supported for the past 17 years.

She said those 29 communities had benefited from a lot of projects and programmes, which should enable them to stand on their own.

Mrs Baka said CCFC would intensify its national advocacy programme to prevent young girls from travelling from the North to the South to engage in “kayaye”.

She commended staff and partners of CCFC for their dedication to duty, leading to a lot of successes within the past year and emphasized the need for them to work as a team to achieve more success.

The Reverend Elijah Aduah, Head Pastor of Calvary Baptist Church in Tamale, who was the guest speaker, urged society to avoid acts that tended to discriminate against children.

Rev Aduah called for more education for members of the public to respect the rights of children and avoid injustices against them.
