Nankesedo, Dec. 14, GNA – The Nkusukum Traditional Area in the Mfantseman Municipality would not accept nomination of any person as a chief or queen mother whose level of education is below senior high school.
Nana Baah VII, Nimfahene of the Traditional Area, said this at the outdooring of Nana Tailwa Ampon VII as queen mother of the Nimfa Division at the weekend. Nana Ampon, a 20-year-old graduate of the Winneba School of Business is also the queen of Nankesedo (Saltpond lower Town). She succeeds her elder sister, Nana Taikwa VI, who died three years ago.
Nana Baah, who is also Nankesedohen, said the decision to raise the level of education of chiefs and queens was to encourage children of the area to be more serious with their education. It is also to make chiefs and queens to be more knowledgeable to enable them play effective roles in the administration of their communities and the traditional area.
Nana Ampon expressed concern about the rate at which girls were dropping out of school and said in primary schools girls often out numbered boys in enrolment but the number diminished drastically as they moved along. She said how to retain girls in school for them to pursue higher education would be her priority and appealed to parents to support her to find solution to the problem. Nana Ampon called for unity and cooperation in tackling problems facing the area.
