Tarkwa (W/R), July 15, GNA- Mr. Mohammed Yakubu, Wassa West District Manager of the Forestry Services Division (FSD) has called on chiefs and other community leaders to adopt traditional norms of conserving natural resources of the country.
He said the Forest and Wildlife policy enjoins the FSD to collaborate with the forest fringe communities to ensure productive working partnership for sustainable forest management.
Mr. Yakubu was inaugurating the second batch of the Community Forest Committee (CFC) at Tarkwa on Tuesday.
Members of the committee were drawn from Mempeasem, Dzatsui, Asonti, Dadwen, Boakrom, kofikrom, and Gwira-Banso.
Mr. Tim Nankara, Wassa West district planning officer said the district assembly would support the activities of the CFC because their services would be needed in its development programmes.
Nana Ohene Nyartwi, a member of the Wassa Fiase traditional council advised members of the committee not to compromise their positions by condoning the illegal activities within the forest reserve. 15 July 04
