Chief shot dead in presence of wife

Nkwanta (V/R), Dec. 13, GNA – Akola Basinani, Amankrado of the Nawuris at Kitari-Disani in the Nkwanta District, has been shot dead. Basinani, 70, was allegedly shot in the rib at close range. Speaking to the Ghana News Agency at the weekend Mr Stephen Bakinani, a nephew of the deceased, said last Saturday whilst the deceased was sleeping in his room he heard someone attempting to open the door. He said the intruder entered the room, flashed torchlight on the old man’s face and shot him.

The assailant fled the scene and it was the screaming of the deceased’s wife that attracted people to the scene.

When contacted Mr. Sekyere Bruku, Deputy Superintendent of Police in charge of the Nkwanta District, confirmed the story and said policemen have been dispatched to the area to maintain peace because of the volatile nature of the area.
