Chief puts up JSS block for community

Asamang (Ash), July 20, GNA – Nana Agyen Ababio, Asamanghene near Asuofua in the Atwima District of Ashanti has put up a three-classroom block for the local Junior Secondary School (JSS) at the cost of 150 million cedis through his own resources to promote quality education in the area.

The Atwima District Assembly supported the project, which consists of an office, store and a staff common room, with seven packets of roofing sheets while the residents offered communal labour. Mr Slyvanus Opoku-Acheampong, headteacher of the school, announced this at the school’s annual speech and prize-giving day held at Asamang on Sunday.

It also coincided with a fund-raising harvest in aid of an extension of electricity to the school and the refurbishment of the head teacher’s office, which yielded three million cedis.

Mr Opoku-Acheampong said Nana Adjei-Duroh, Mawotinhene near Asamang had also donated three packets of roofing sheets to improve educational infrastructure in the area, while Nana Opoku Agyemang, Otumfuo Akrofohene also donated 100,000 cedis cash.

The headteacher said Nana Appiah Ofori, Kruwa-Akrowahene, also donated teachers’ tables and chairs to the school and commended the chiefs in the area for their contribution towards the development and improvement of education in the area.

Miss Mary Nkyisem, the assistant headteacher, advised parents to encourage their female wards go to school instead of trading. Mr Owusu Bempah, proprietor of Muve-Head International School at Asamang, who presided, said the establishment of the JSS would give much relief to the primary six pupils from walking long distances to attend school at Asuofua.
