Wassa Akropong (W/R), July 1, GNA – Nana Ntori Bonkyi Akomeah 1, Chief of Amuni and Gyasihene of the Wasa Amenfi Traditional Area, at the weekend, attacked Mr Musa Naabong, a correspondent of the Enquirer at Wasa-Akropong.
Nana Akomeah did not understand why the Newspaper’s story on alleged financial malpractices at the Amanfiman Rural Bank in the June 16-19 edition of the paper should go with a picture of Mr Joseph B. Aidoo, the Western Regional Minister. Mr Aidoo is the brother-in-law of Nana Akomeah. He accused the reporter of intentionally bringing the name of the Regional Minister into disrepute and threatened to deal with the reporter the way he pleases and said he would see to it that the reporter leaves the district.
Fuming with rage, the chief would not listen to Mr Naabong’s explanation that the printing of Mr Aidoo’s picture, which could be a mistake, was actually not from him. When some people restrained him later, Nana Akomeah, retorted that the repeal of the criminal libel law was a mistake, because it has allowed journalists to publish all sorts of nonsense and go scot-free. Meanwhile, Mr Naabong has reported the case to the Wassa-Akropong police for investigation.
