Chief appeals to MPs to stop boycotts

The Omanhen of Gomoa Akyempim, Obrifo Ahunako Ahor Ankobea II, has appealed to Members of Parliament (MPs) to desist from boycotts and concentrate on the work they are elected to do.

“I do not think MPs are elected to go and embark on boycotts,” the Omanhen said in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Apam. Obrifo Ahunako Ahor Ankobea reminded the MPs that though they were elected on party lines and are expected to serve their constituents and not only their party members.

“It is for this reason that MPs must not embark on boycotts on matters affecting only their parties. I think it is time the constituents start withdrawing the confidence they repose in their MPs when they go to Parliament only to do the wish of their political parties,” he said.

Obrifo Ahunako Ahor Ankobea suggested that the 1992 Constitution be amended to make an elected President win in at least six out of the 10 regions.

This, he said, would make the President a true representative of the entire populace and not only a few minority and added “we do not need a sectional President, but a President whom the entire population will recognize.”
