The UN Special Representative for West Africa, Dr Mohammed Ibn Chambas, has raised concerns about the worsening fortunes of women representation within the top echelons of decision-making in the country.
According to him, the development does not bode well for Ghana.
Speaking at the launch of the book ‘Key Determinants of National Development: Historical Perspectives & Implications for Developing Economies’ on Thursday, November 26, Dr Chambas said given the results of the primaries of Ghana’s two major political parties, female representation in the next Parliament will not be anything encouraging.
“The level of female representation in the next Parliament may not likely see any improvements given the outcome of the primaries,” he observed.
“In fact, it may worsen.”
The former Member of Parliament for Navrongo, therefore, admonished authorities to adopt innovative ways to buck the trend.
“We must challenge ourselves and come out with creative and innovative approaches to get more females to political and other decision-making levels.”
