Aflao, June 19, GNA – Customs, Excise and Preventive Service (CEPS) personnel at Aflao Collection at Segbe, a border village near Aflao last weekend seized about 5,200 pieces of cartridges. Ms Vida Ezu Mankata, a lady occupant of the house where the items were found is being held for interrogation.

Mr Baba Moro, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in charge of crime at Aflao told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that CEPS personnel acted on a tip off and destination of the munitions were not yet known. He said when personnel from Segbe duty post entered the building they found eight Key Soap cartons in which were concealed 208 packets of ‘saga’ brand cartridges, each containing 25 pieces.

Mr Moro said Vida told the police that, she did not know the name of the man who brought the items for safe keeping but could recognize him.

He said Vida maintained that for her the cartons contained soap and did not know cartridges were concealed in the boxes. Mr Moro said Vida had since been granted 20 million cedis bail with a surety by an Aflao Circuit Court to re-appear on July 7.
