Bono Manso (B/A), Jan. 19, GNA – Mr. Kwame Ampofo-Twumasi, Member of Parliament for Nkoranza South at the weekend urged Ghanaians to emulate the selfless contributions of the nation’s past leaders and work harder for accelerated national development.
He cautioned against allowing partisan politics “to divide us” since development programmes could only be initiated and implemented with a united front.
Addressing a durbar of chiefs and people at Bono Manso, a former slave trade centre, in Brong Ahafo to commemorate the 76th birthday anniversary of the late African American Civil Rights leader, Dr Martin Luther King Jnr., the MP urged all to let the ideals and vision of the late American “to guide us in our forward march in development”.
The durbar was organised by the Centre for Savana Art and Civilisation, a non-profit, voluntary organization in co-operation with the chiefs and people and was held at the Martin Luther King Jnr. Village in the town.
Mr. Ampofo-Twumasi, former District Chief Executive for Nkoranza, advised the youth to be imbued with patriotism and to develop the communal spirit to assist in the development of their communities.
Mr. Kohain Halevi-Rabbi, Executive Secretary of PANAFEST Foundation, described the late civil rights icon as a hero whose toils and efforts led to the emancipation of black people in the Diaspora, adding he had left a great legacy for African Americans.
He reiterated the need for the youth to emulate past leaders and contribute meaningfully to the development of their communities to accelerate national development.
Ms Felicia Obuobie, Executive Director of the Centre for Savana Art commended all those, including Mr. Ampofo-Twumasi, whose commitment and efforts helped to establish the Dr Martin Luther King Jnr. Village at Bono Manso.
She on behalf of the organization presented a certificate of honour to the MP in appreciation of his efforts and appealed to him to market the centre and village to the rest of the world to promote the development of the area.
Nana Okofo Agyapong 111, Adontenhene of Nkoranza Traditional Area, who presided, urged the people to take good care of the Village to boost its tourist attraction.
