CentraRegional House of Chiefs declares Nana Afrasi Brempong as Odikro of Tweikukrom

Cape Coast, July 29, GNA – The Central Regional House of Chiefs has declared Nana Afrasi Brempong VII as the recognised Odikro of Ajumako-Assin (Tweikukrom).

This was contained in a five-page report of a Three-member Committee Chaired by Daasebre Kwebu Ewusi VII, President of the House and also member of the Council of State.

The other members of the Committee were Nana Idun Andoh X, Kwamankesehen and Nana Tibu Asare II, Assin Atandansohen. In attendance was Mr A.K. Prah, Assistant Registrar of the Central Regional House of Chiefs.

They sat on the case that was brought before the House by one Nana Tweiku Ababio II who claimed to be the Odikro of Tweikukrom.

The report said the members were convinced that correspondences, judgments and other relevant documents they received, as well as verbal presentations in line with tradition and custom revealed that Nana Tweiku Ababio II had not sworn any oath of allegiance to the Ajumako Omanhen, Nana Kwamina Hammah Ababio II.

They said in this regard, his (Tweiku Ababio’s) purported nomination, election, enstoolment and installation as chief of Tweikukrom had not been in accordance with the provisions of the Chieftaincy Act of 2008, Act 759 Section 57 (5). They therefore declared his acting in that capacity as null and void since he had no customary recognition whatsoever.

The House awarded a cost of GHc150,000 against Nana Tweiku Ababio II, and restrained he and his agents perpetually from beating gong-gong in Tweikukrom. He was also ordered to hand over all the stool properties in his custody to Nana Brempong VII, Tweikukromhen.
