Cape Coast, March 30, GNA-Two armed robbers, Safianu Braimah 24 and Issifu Issah alias Awudu, 20 who attacked, molested and robbed a couple at Subriso Nyamebekyere Number Two, a village near Dunkwa-on-Offin, of three million cedis were last Sunday arrested and placed in police custody by the Central regional police.
They were among a gang of five armed robbers, three of them now at large, who went to the village to rob one Nana Kwasi, a cocoa and palm fruit farmer and his farm help.
Nana Kwasi, 35, told newsmen at the offices of the Regional Police Commander, Mrs. Rose Atinga- Bio, at Cape Coast on Thursday that about 1230 hours on Sunday March 26, he fast asleep with his wife and two children when they heard a big bang on their door and two armed robbers rushed in.
He said the robbers, armed with daggers, robes and large needles asked that they bring out the monies on them or they would be killed and before he could utter a word, one of the robbers whom he later identified as Braimah stabbed him in the head, but he managed to escape to the next village to call for help.
Nana Kwasi said he saw two other robbers enter the room of his farm help who also bolted to another village leaving their wives and children behind.
He said the surrounding villagers quickly responded to his distress call for help and came to his aid and when the armed robbers heard their footsteps they bolted, but his wife, Adjoa Sekyiaa who was by then half naked and bleeding profusely from knife wounds, told them that the robbers took three million cedis from her and said since it was not enough, they would rape her in turns and were about to do so when they arrived.
Nana Kwasi said the villagers searched for the armed robbers and saw Issah on a cocoa tree and he was shot down and arrested, whiles Braimah was arrested during the day when he missed his way, in a thicket.
The two armed robbers admitted the offence in the presence of the Regional Commander and told her that they are natives of Bawku, but reside in Kumasi and that they went to the village to rob the farmer because they had a tip off that he was very rich.
Mrs Atinga-Bio commended the villagers for the prompt response to the farmer’s call for help, which made the arrest of the two armed robbers possible. She appealed to the general public to readily give out information on suspicious people in their communities to the police.
