Ajumako (C/R), Dec 29, GNA – The Association of Central Region NGOs (ANCER) has embarked on malaria control education programmes in Cape Coast Municipality, Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam, Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese and Twifu-Heman-Lower Denkyira districts. Briefing Ghana News Agency at Ajumako Alhaji Osman Moro Fukuyama, a spokesman for the association, said the association had realized that observing clean environmental and personal hygiene could prevent malaria.
Alhaji Fukuyama, who is also the leader of the three-man team in charge of Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam District, said heeding instructions by health workers could also control the diseased. He expressed gratitude to the Global Fund, Malaria Control Programme and the Ministry of Health for supporting the association with funds to undertake the programme. Alhaji Fukuyama said his team had trained 52 community health agents, held durbars in 10 communities, organized education talks in 28 churches and seven Mosques and held seven group discussions.
“In all about 5,399 people in Hasowodze, Chiso Baa, Amia, Entumbil, Afranse, Abaasa, Mando, Obontser and Onyaadze were covered”, he said. Alhaji Fukuyama said the community health agents were trained to mobilize people for clean-up exercises, assist pregnant women to attend Intermittent Prevention Treatment (IPT) anti-natal and post-natal clinics, the use of Insecticide Treated Nets and on promotion of Artesnnate-Amodiaquine as frontline treatment for malaria. He appealed to chiefs, religious groups and individuals to help the community health agents to discharge their duties effectively since the work was voluntary.
