‘Census Is 70% Complete’

The Census Secretariat says it has so far covered over 70 percent of the total population in the on-going population and housing census.

The Head of Public Relations, Education and Field Operation, Mr. David Kombat, who disclosed this to the Times newspaper yesterday said the Secretariat was hopeful that the entire country would be covered by the close of Sunday, October 17.

He said although some of the enumerators had finished with their work, they were being recalled to assist those yet to complete enumeration in their assigned area. Mr. Kombat said every enumerator was given a specific area to cover under the supervision of a leader but it happened that some had finished earlier than others.

He said, those who might not have been counted by Sunday, should call the secretariat for them o be counted.

He thanked the Ghana Education Service for extending the duration of teacher enumerators for one week. The census which began on the night of September 26 was scheduled to end on Sunday, October 10 but had to be extended after the process was hindered by problems of inadequate materials and other logistics.
