CCMA supports Cape Deaf, Ankaful Prisons

The Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly (CCMA), has donated assorted items to the Cape Coast School for the Deaf and Blind (Cape Deaf), and the Ankaful Maximum Security Prisons.

At Cape Deaf, 15 bags of rice, 15 bags of maize, one bag each of sugar, Gari and beans, as well as five cartons of soap were presented, while the Ankaful Prisons received 20 mattresses, 10 bags of maize, five bags of rice, five cartons of soap, two cartons of tin tomatoes and one gallon of cooking Oil.

The Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) of CCMA, Mrs. Priscilla Arhin-Korankye said the gesture was in response to several appeals made to the Assembly by the two intuitions on various platforms.

She, however, pledged the Assembly’s continued support to the two institutions and urged other organizations to come to the aid of the two institutions.

Mrs. Arhin-Korankye urged inmates at the Ankaful Prisons to comport themselves while in prisons, and even after they had finished serving their sentences so that they did not return to the prison.

At Cape Deaf, the Principal, Mr. Setumte Ametewee, received the items on behalf of the students, and expressed gratitude to the Assembly for the timely response to their appeal, adding that it would go a long way in making this year’s Christmas a memorable one for the students.

He said conditions at the school had improved, and urged other organizations to also donate to the school since there were still some needs to be addressed.

At the Ankaful Prisons, ASP Daniel Machator, the Central Regional Public Relations Officer of Ghana Prisons Service, also expressed gratitude for the gesture, and said it would supplement government’s efforts in keeping inmates as comfortable as possible.

He said such gestures make inmates feel like part of the society, and also help them in their reformation process, and called for more support to the facility.
