Kumasi, Dec. 28, GNA – Reverend Father Philip Opoku Nyame, parish priest of Saint Paul’s Catholic Church at Amakom, has called on traditional rulers, religious organisations, non-governmental organisations and all peace-loving individuals in the Northern region to come together and initiate a programme to find a lasting solution to the numerous conflicts in the North.
He explained that the current volatile situation in the North was affecting the socio-economic development in the area since funds meant for developmental projects were being channelled into peace keeping initiatives.
Rev Father Nyame made the call at a thanksgiving service organised for the Members of Parliament-elect for the Oforikrom and Subin constituencies in Kumasi on Sunday.
The MPs-elect were Mr Sampson Kwaku Boafo, Ashanti Regional Minister, for Subin and Mrs Elizabeth Agyemang for Oforikrom. He said despite the availability of fertile land in the North, investors were not willing to go there due to the conflicts. Mr Boafo commended political parties for their roles in making the elections peaceful and hoped Ghanaians could continue to sustain the peace to ensure accelerated development.
Mrs Agyeman on her part, called on Ghanaians to uphold the integrity of the nation by sustaining the peace.
