Kumasi, Jan 20, GNA-The Ghana National Traditional Caterers Association (GNTCA) has denied media reports that its members at the Asafo Market Neoplan Station are using polluted water from Subin stream to prepare their meals for sale to the public.
Nana Amma Serwaa, National President of the association was speaking to the Ghana News Agency in Kumasi on Thursday in reaction to a media report that chop bar operators at the Asafo Market Neoplan Station were using polluted water that seeped from the walls of the Subin drain to cook their food for sale.
She said the report was false and calculated to tarnish the reputation of its members and disrupt their businesses. Nana Serwaa said the report had affected sales of members since their customers were now reluctant to buy food from the chop bars in the metropolis.
She said members of the association had their own individual standpipes, which provided them with potable water for their businesses. Nana Serwaa, who was accompanied by the executive members of the association, tendered in receipts of payments of water bills from the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) to back their claim that they have been using clean water from the standpipes to do their businesses. Nana Serwaa said the people who were normally found scooping water from the Subin drain were the head porters (kayayoos) who used them for washing their clothes and bathing.
She therefore, advised their numerous customers to ignore the report since they, as mothers and wives would not use polluted and dirty water from a stream to cook food, which they also eat.
