The Dormaa Central Municipal Director of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), Mr. Kumi Asare has encouraged the youth, particularly the young men, to consider pursuing skill training as a means to secure a better future. He expressed concern over the minimal interest shown by the young men in the ongoing free apprenticeship program which he urged the youth to capitalize on the Program to acquire essential skills for their future benefits.
As part of the Free National Apprenticeship Program aimed at equipping young individuals with craftsmanship skills for a brighter future, Mr. Kumi Asare revealed that 60 applicants have been selected from over 1,500 applicants to start the program in the Dormaa Central Municipality. Additionally, 12 Master Craftsmen have been selected from more than 200 applicants to train these apprentices.
In an exclusive interview with Kwaku Mensah Abrampa, Mr. Kumi Asare, the Dormaa Central Municipal YEA Director, highlighted that out of 10,000 individuals chosen for the national apprenticeship program nationwide, Dormaa Ahenkro was tasked with selecting 60 apprentices for 12 Master Craftsmen, each receiving five apprentices.
He encouraged the remaining applicants to look forward to the same opportunity next year as the government plans to increase the national intake. He emphasized that the Master Craftsmen will also be afforded equal opportunities. Those not selected for the pilot program are urged to remain patient, as there is indeed hope for future prospects.
Mr. Kumi Asare took the opportunity to advise the beneficiaries to be punctual in their work and to approach their trade with the seriousness it deserves. He emphasized that they have a maximum of 18 months and a minimum of 4 months to complete their training. This timeframe is intended to allow others the opportunity to be trained as well. Consequently, it is imperative for them to remain dedicated to ensuring they are well-prepared for a better future by being punctual and dedicated to work.
