Cape Coast, March 24, GNA – The mortal remains of the Cape Coast Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Alhaji Muniru Arafat Nuhu, who died on Wednesday night, was on Thursday laid to rest at the Antem Cemetery at Cape Coast after prayers by the National Chief Imam, Sheik Osuman Nuhu Shaributu.
Alhaji Nuhu, aged 56, reportedly died of cardiac arrest at the Central Regional Hospital.
Hundreds of mourners, including the Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama, Ministers of State, Chief Executives and Assembly Members attended the ceremony to pay their last respects.
In a tribute, Alhaji Mahama, described the MCE, as “an illustrious son of the land, who has left his mark”, and also expressed condolences on behalf of the President, Mr John Agyekum Kufuor.
He called on Ghanaians to love one another and have fellow feeling irrespective of one’s political, religious or social standing because “our destiny lies with Allah”.
Vice-President Mahama also called on the people of the Region to continue to pray for peace and prosperity for the Municipality and the country at large and made a personal donation of one million cedis to the bereaved family.
Alhaji Nuhu was a Tutor at Adisadel College before he was appointed the MCE at the inception of the New Patriotic Party Administration. He completed his university education at the University of Cape Coast in 1978, and travelled to Nigeria in 1979 to teach until 1988, when he returned home and took up an appointment at Adisadel College. He left behind a wife and four children.
