Calm returns to Apeguso, Frankadua after clash with Police

Ho (Volta Region) – Calm has returned to Apeguso and Frakadua following last Thursday’s clash between the Ho Police and the youth of the area over the erection of illegal speed ramps on the Ho-Accra trunk road.

One person, Kwadzo Boafo, died during the clash while two others were injured when Police fired warning shots to disperse the youth who tried to prevent them from dismantling the ramps.

Kofi Duku Arthur, Volta Regional Police Commander, told the Ghana News Agency on Monday that Police detachment sent to keep the peace had been withdrawn.

He said the Ghana Highways Authority (GHA) personnel from the Eastern Region arrived on the day of the incident to begin the construction of speed ramps to replace the illegal ones.

Arthur said the Volta Regional Security Committee (VREGSEC) ordered the removal of the illegal ramps following complaints by motorists that they were damaging their vehicles.
