Members of the security agencies, political parties and other bodies in the Central Region on Friday embarked on a peaceful march through the principal streets of Cape Coast.
The representatives of the Ghana Police Service, Ghana Immigration Service, Ghana National Fire Service and Ghana Prisons Service, and the Electoral Commission (EC), media and some civil society groups, marched through the rain.
The event, which was organized by the Central Regional Police Command to assure the public of the security agencies’ preparedness towards peaceful elections in December, began from the Regional Police Headquarters, through Pedu and ended at the Victoria Park in the city.
The Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police, (DCOP) Stephen Andoh- Kuofie, thanked the participants for their cooperation in the exercise.
He gave the assurance that the police and other security agencies would ensure peaceful free and fair polls in December.
DCOP Andoh-Kuofie said the peace march would be undertaken regularly to remind the public of the need for peace during this year’s elections.
Mr. Siribuo Quaicoo, Deputy Central Regional Electoral Commissioner, said that the EC would be neutral in the discharge of its duties, and ensure free and fair elections in December.**
