The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development has presented a total of 10,000 liter bins, shovels, wellington boots and other sanitation tools to all the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in the Central Region.

The sector Minister, Alhaji Collins Dauda who handed over the items to the Regional Coordinating Council for onward distribution, said the gesture showed that the Ministry was prepared to support the region as it hosts the ninth edition of the National Sanitation Day on Saturday, August 1.

The presentation held on Monday was witnessed by some Members of Parliament (MPs) from the Central Region, led by the Regional Minister and MP for Mfantseman, Mr Aquinas Tawiah Quansah, Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) and party faithful.

He said the Government was committed to rid the nation of filth, hence the resources procured to sustain the exercise.

The Minister charged all the MMDCEs to promote best sanitation and environmental practices within their jurisdictions.

Mr. Dauda bemoaned the recent report that Ghana was the seventh dirtiest country in the world, and urged all stakeholders in the region to play their significant roles to sustain the exercise.

The Regional Minister, Mr Quansah, on behalf of the beneficiaries, thanked Government for the support, and was optimistic that the sanitation agenda would be successful in the region.

He declared that the region was fully prepared for the exercise on Saturday.

Later at a media briefing, the Deputy Local Government Minister, Nii Lamptey Vanderpuye, noted that some sections of the public had not fully understood the concept of the National Sanitation exercise and were kicking against it.

He, therefore, charged the media to help sensitize and educate the public for them to fully understand the need to get involved.
