Ajumako (C/R), Oct 18, GNA – The International Labour Organisation (ILO), in collaboration with the Ghana Decent Work Pilot Programme (GDWPP) and the Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam District Assembly, at the weekend began a two-day workshop for 45 selected businessmen and assembly members.
The workshop, which forms part of a wider programme aimed at building the capacity of the Assembly and other social partners, is to design and implement the pilot programme within the Ajumak-Enyam-Essiam and the Awutu-Effutu-Senya Districts.
The GDWPP aims at poverty reduction in line with the Ghana Poverty Reduction Strategy and to assist the assemblies and their sub-committees to embark on productive ventures.
The project also aims at addressing low levels of education and the training of self-employed and other workers, women and persons with disability in the informal economy.
Mr. Kenneth Obempong, District Chief Executive for Ajumako -Enyam-Essiam, called on the participants to take the workshop seriously to ensure consistency in messages they give to stakeholders in their advocacy programmes.
Mr Obempong expressed his appreciation to the organisers of the workshop and gave the assurance that, with the ILO/GDWPP at his doorsteps, the district would soon come into the limelight. 18 Oct. 2003
