Busia’s Daughter Receives Death Threats

Nana Frema Busia, daughter of Ghana’s second Prime Minister, Dr Kofi Abrefa Busia is a deeply worried woman.

In a telephone conversation, she told The Insight that she has been receiving death threats on her mobile phone for sometime now. Nana Frema has made serious allegations of corruption and abuse of rights against the Presidency and the National Security apparatus. It is believed that the death threats are intended to shut her up especially in the run up to the 2008 elections.

Nana Frema Busia was a practicing lawyer in the United States of America but she was later recruited to work on a UN-sponsored Small Arms Project in Ghana.

She is currently contesting elections as an independent Parliamentary candidate for Manhyia in Kumasi. Nana Frema’s father was Prime Minister for 1969 to 1972 on the ticket of th Progress Party (PP).

Current President J.A. Kufuor was a deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs in the Busia administration. Indeed Dr. K.A. Busia has now been adopted as the political inspiration fro the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) along with Dr J.B. Danquah. Nana Frema’s problems with the Kufuor administration could impact on the outcome of the 2008 elections.
