Burial Leads To more Policemen Dead

The burial of police officer, Ernest Acheampong, at the Agogo cemetery, turned tragic when three policemen and a civilian in a vehicle accompanying the body to the grave yard lost their lives in an accident.

The policemen men, Felix Owusu, Shaibu Alhassan and another colleague whose name was only given as Sule were all lance-corporals and the civilian is yet to be identified.

DSP Paapa Yawson, the Agogo District Police Commander who was also involved in the accident, told the GNA that the accident which occurred at about 11 am on Saturday involved the district police’s command pick-up.

He said in the process of over-taking another Nissan Patrol ahead, their vehicle skidded off the road, somersaulted several times before landing in a valley.

The driver of the vehicle on which the four, among others, were on board is said to have lost control of the vehicle which led to the deaths in the valley and another at the Agogo Presbyterian hospital.

He said ten of the victims are currently on admission at the same hospital while nine others who are in critical conditions have been referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) for further treatment.

Police Officer Ernest Acheampong died recently in a police shoot out with armed robbers at Kasoa.
