Build on strengths of predecessor – Irbard to acting IGP

A security and international relations analyst Irbard Ibrahim has urged the new acting Inspector General of Police (IGP), David Asante Apeatu, to build on the accomplishments of former IGP John Kudalor whilst introducing novel ideas to improve policing in the country.

According to Mr Ibrahim, there are several areas where police fall short in their operations. COP Apeatu served as the director of the Specialised Crime and Analyst Unit at the Interpol headquarters in Lyon, France.

Mr Ibrahim, speaking to Moro Awudu on the Executive Breakfast Show (EBS) on Class91.3FM on Thursday January 26, expressed confidence that the acting IGP would bring his experience to bear in enhancing the image of the police service.

“The essence of getting a new IGP is going to be building on the strength of the outgoing IGP and coming out with novel ideas that will tackle some of the myriad of domestic security challenges that [we have],” he stated.

He urged the new IGP to “work [in collaboration] with our intelligence community, with the Defence Ministry to protect this country, to protect the mainland and safeguard our sovereignty and territorial integrity from the activities of transnational militants that have struck neighbouring countries like Burkina Faso, La Cote d’Ivoire, and in the northeast of Nigeria, which are the challenges that is being faced as a result of security [breakdown] in those countries”.

COP Apeatu was named the new IGP by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Wednesday January 25 following the retirement of Mr Kudalor.
