A 24 year old pretty, elegant, eloquent, well educated, and charming personality by name, Miss Tammy Garr, the Miss Liberia of Pennsylvania stormed the main auditorium of the University of the District of Columbia (DC) last weekend and display her talent and crowned as the queen of Miss Liberia in America 2006 beauty pageant show.
“I thanked the Almighty God for seeing me through the thin and thick, when the life was tough, rough, and hard for me at the Bubumbra a r efugee camp in the Central Region of Ghana,little did i knew that one day-one time my star will shine to be counted among my peers in a beautiful way like what has happened to me this night,” were the words from the final year marketing and sales student of Devry University of Pennsylvania, Miss Garr.
The Miss Liberia of America 2006 Beauty Contest was divided into seven segments, as the first segment was African wear, swim wear , talent segment , evening wear, dancing by the beauty pageants choice of music, a poem and answering questions from the judges in that order.
After a hottly contested beauty queen show, the judges did not hesitate to choose the Miss Pennsylvania to wear the crown as queen of the night, and the well attended audience did applause and nob by the decent decision and hailed the new Miss Liberia of America 2006, with hug, kisses. and flowers from the supportes and well wishes.
Other nine young striking pretty ladies gave miss Garr a stiff opposition as the saying goes, “let the hat fit the one who wears it,” by the late Bob Marley, While Abe Bates the Miss Virginia was the first runner up, Sabina Harvey the Miss New York placed third and Danieline Moore, the Miss Maryland claimed the fourth position and also beautiful night wear of the night.
For her sweat and toil, the Miss Liberia of America 2006, Miss Tammy Garr took home a brand new Nissan Altima, a cash of $500 and other educational packages as her prize, Abe Bates the Miss Virginia got an amount of $400, educational packages as her prize for the second position, and Sabina Harvey the Miss New York picked $300 and other educational packages as all the nine beauty delegates were presented with certificates of participation and also some educational packages as their prizes of the miss Liberia of USA 2006.
Miss Garr in an exclusively interview with the reporter of Afrikan Insight said, “she feels great and being honored for choosing to be the Ambassador and real model to the Liberian community in the USA,” My heart is saddened that the war in Liberia did forced some of the pretty ladies to join the train of prostitution, drug addicts, and other social vices but however all is not yet lost since the sky is the limit, and the war should serve us a wake-up call to other African Nations and the world that war is not the answer, but unity, peace, harmony, hard working, self- commitment, and God fearing things will be better in Liberia (the little America of Africa).
The brain behind the Miss Liberia USA 2006 beauty pageant were the handy work of Action for talent search, Inc. whose President Mrs. Nellie Francis-Sirleaf Savice disclosed that the Afrikan Insight that,” it is our plans to engage in the formation of separate beauty pageant arrangements for younger ages as a means of encouraging Liberian young ladies to pursue the education by being in school continuously getting married and having children.
She noted that such pageants are to empower our young girls to become good role models, to carry on with our good Liberian culture, aspiring to improve the growth and develop potential of our up and coming Liberian ladies, to achieve it’s own objectives of contributing to the recovery of the Liberia Nation and to increase the level of self esteem.
Mrs. Nellie Savice thanked the sponsors, the crew of her company and every one who made sure that this dream of organizing the Miss Liberia USA 2006 comes true and indicated to organize another social programs in due course to help the Liberia community.
The President of Liberia Her Excellency Madame Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf (1st female President of Africa) was not left out from the show, as she was honored by her Educational Credentials with a sponsorship package of $500 that went to Robynn Woyee the Miss North Carolina and Mrs. Grace Morris a former executive member of the West African Examination Council (WAEC) for her immense contribution towards the upliftment of the education of Liberia with a $300 sponsorship package was awarded to Soki Kyne Miss Delaware.
