A four-day Strategic Management Seminar for Newspaper Editors, Editorial Managers, and Senior Journalists from seven African countries has opened in Accra and is being funded by the British Government
The seminar, which runs from 24-28 November, is being organised by the Commonwealth Press Union drawing 30 participants from Commonwealth and non-Commonwealth countries including, Nigeria, The Gambia, Cameroon, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Cote d’Ivoire, Togo and Ghana.
Opening the seminar, the British High Commissioner, Dr Rod Pullen, said the British Government was happy to fund the seminar, which he hoped: “will allow participants to further develop their skills in such way as to enhance the media within your respective countries. Free, but well informed, accurate and objective media, are a vital element for any democratic system providing an essential service to the people of the nation.”
The aim of the seminar is to assess and discuss the problems facing the development of the newspaper industry in the sub-region.
Discussions will focus on newspaper organisation and management, impartiality of the press, effective revenue generation, editorial and strategic management.
This is the 5th of such seminar to be funded by the British government (HMG) and organised by the Commonwealth Press Union
