British donates to Disabled

Ho, Aug. 16, GNA- A British Philanthropist on Saturday donated wheel chairs and clutches to about 40 disable persons from some parts of the Volta Region at Ho.

Mr Richard Galliford, Director of Ghana Outlook in UK appealed to authorities at the Tema Port not frustrate efforts by some donors to clear goods meant for the disadvantaged in society.

“it is not worth the effort to solicit for money to buy goods ship them, only to be kept at the ports for weeks because of the time wasting procedures that add up to extra cost”, he said.

Mr Galliford said his organisation will nevertheless continue to source for funds in the UK to help the disadvantaged in Ghana. Free spectacles were also given out to those screened and found to have sight problems.

Christian African Relief Trust, Rotary Club International Ho Chapter, Ghana Outlook funded the cost of the goods. Mr Fredrick Asare, President of the Rotary Club, said the donation was the third to be organised in the region and urged recipients to use them to improve their lot.

Mr Joseph Achana, President of Ghana Outlook, Ghana, said it is not hands and legs alone that make people achieve greatness and urged the physically challenged to use their brains to lead productive lives. Mr Ralph Avornyo, Acting Volta Regional Director of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) blamed the disabled who benefited from similar programmes in the past but have come again to collect the items.
