Bring decency into programms of radio stations – NMC urged

Apam C/R), June 2, GNA – Mr Emmanuel Sagoe, Gomoa West Constituency Vice-Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has appealed to the National Media Commission (NMC) to take steps to bring decency into the programmes of radio stations in the country.

of the who made the appeal decried some of the programmes, including the news bulletins some of the radio stations, especially the Frequency Modulation (FM) stations.

“They lack complete decency”, Mr Sagoe said in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Apam. He reminded the radio stations that listeners on their programmes included children in whom they must instil decency. Mr Sagoe said one of the radio stations in its news bulletin quoted a pastor of a Church in whom a lady confided about the ordeal she had gone through and mentioned the female genital organ several times in the bulletin.

Again, he said, a radio presenter in a programme asked female listeners the type of male genital organ they preferred, the smaller, the medium or the bigger one.

The NDC Vice-Chairman noted that the interviews some of them conducted left much to be desired. The answers to the questions they asked were predetermined by the news readers and they forced them down the throats of people they were interviewing.

“I understand that news is to inform, educate and entertain listeners but I don’t see any of the three elements in some of the news items relayed to the public,” he stated. Radio stations must ensure that their programmes would promote the government’s Better Ghana Agenda instead of contribute to the moral decadence of the society, he said. 2 June 10
