Bridge over River Ochie under repairs

Apam, April 22, GNA- The Maintenance Unit of the Ghana Highway Authority (GHA) is working on the collapsed Bailey bridge over River Ochie on the Gomoa Brofo and Mando road.

The collapse of the bridge has cut off Gomoa Assempanyin, Ajumakoansa, Brebiano and Tweikukrom form the rest of the Gomoa District.

The District Chief Executive, Ms Joyce Aidoo who made this known to news men at Apam said the engineers had dismantled the bridge to facilitate the repair works.

She refuted media reports that accused her of being insensitive to the plight of the people by refusing to visit the site. Ms Aidoo said she informed the Central Regional Minister, Mr Isaac Edumadze and officials of the GHA about the defective bridge. “Since the bridge collapsed on February 18, 2005, I have visited the site not less than eight times,” she said.

“I have never slept over the problem,” she said, and appealed to the chiefs who allegedly initiated the media reports to stop playing politics with every problem in the District.
